Buffalo's Media Producer and Business Owner Nikita Williams is going strong.
She's intelligent, talented and stunningly beautiful.
MCL: What is The Advocator?
NW: A 30 minute talking head show designed to bring awareness to the community about issues that effect society as a whole, as well as, to highlight local talent coming in and out of the WNY area.
MCL: How did it all begin?t
NW: it originally started 8 years ago when I saw the inadequacies within the Buffalo Board of Education while I was employed with them, and I wanted to inform the parents thaf there were other agencies and options in the city to assist in advocating and educating their children. Since then, I saw a need to help other people and causes than just children. That's when I changed the name to The Advocator Show.
MCL: Your studio is at the Apollo in Buffalo? How did you start there?
NW: The Apollo Media Center is a community facility that serves all of the residents in Buffalo, New York. It belongs to the community. They offer classes that train and certifies, residents to become an independent producers in order to develop your own tv shows.
MCL: Do you host it?
NW: I don't host my show. I am the CEO, founder, executive producer, director/technical director and editor of The Advocator.
MCL: Please talk about your production team.
NW: I have guest hosts every episode. I employ the youth in the city to assist with my productions as well as fellow producers on my team
MCL: Do you look for interns to assist?
NW: Constantly. Because The Apollo Media Center acts in the capacity of a training facility, I constantly welcome new recruits to work on my productions which gives them the hand on training they need to become successful in developing and producing their own show.
MCL: What would the interns be doing?
NW: Set designs, properly lighting the studio, sound checks, managing the floor in the studio during production, and serving the needs of the host and guests as they arrive and during production; and breaking down the studio for the next production by other producers
MCL: How did you start in the media?
NW: I went down to The Apollo Media Center located at 1346 Jefferson Ave and I registered for the orientation and the training classes
MCL: Talk about some of the highs and lows of the business?
NW: Highs are a deep sense of fulfillment knowing that each episode is helping someone. The lows are the challenges of sharing a studio with other producers causing accelerated wear and tear on all of the equipment.
MCL: What do you see as the future of the Advocator?
NW: Becoming nationally syndicated
MCL: You also have another venture. What is Phenominal Xpressions?
NW: My jewelry design line which includes one of a kind designs tgat are hand crafted by me; as well as unique 2-4 piece ensembles that I put together from purchased retail pieces that I find from all walks world wide.
MCL: And you do all this ... while wearing heels?
NW: Absolutely! That's my signature fashion trade mark
