The People Movers, known for creating and producing socially, politically, and culturally relevant works, announce the sixth chapter of CRAWL, a multi-disciplinary, nomadic arts presenting series, now in its second year. On May 13 and 14, 2016, the sixth chapter of the series will take place at Livestream Public in Brooklyn at 7:30 p.m. The evening will feature performances by dancers Jordan Isadore and Chafin Seymour, and an electric soundscape by music artist Myles Avery.

CRAWL events have gained a foothold throughout New York in establishing a clear mission that both fosters and supports emerging voices, and by engaging artists and audiences alike. CRAWL creates inclusive performative experiences that simultaneously lead to the exploration of larger, relevant themes. At CRAWL 6, through a collage of denim, ritualized behavior, cultural assumptions, remixed dreams, actual memories, and idealized fantasies, these artists ask one essential question: how do we assert our own individuality and sense of selves in the midst of a loud and often unforgiving culture?

"I couldn't be more thrilled entering our sixth CRAWL" explains Kate Ladenheim, Founder and Executive Producer. "I feel that art is at its most resonant when artists' personal experiences become globally relevant. Seymour, Isadore, and Avery have the unique ability to filter pop culture and its' widespread implications through an introspective, personal lens - but still create work with a particular sort of familiar satisfaction."

PROGRAM INFORMATION

Jordan Isadore: Selected Works

SEE DICK DANCE is a satirical look at gender roles within the queer community. Maypole captures the awkward and unclear moments of a first co-ed birthday party. A lyrical jazz solo encapsulates the feelings of a kid who has a small bladder and fears slumber parties. And finally, a video looks at feelings of an only child growing up gay in a small town. Simultaneously a critical look at gay stereotypes and gender roles and a comical, enjoyable, movement extravaganza, Jordan Isadore's four short works for CRAWL remix actual memories with fantasy to create a new, hyper-physical memory.

Chafin Seymour: Based

BASED is a new group work that seeks to identify the ways in which we stabilize ourselves as individuals and as a society. Taking a "millennial" approach, the collective presents this exploration through a dominant physical performance that is equal parts dance party and litmus test. With references to literary sub-cultures, religious sects, pop culture and music ranging from gospel to trap, BASED questions the importance of personal perspective and self-actualization in a culture dominated by group thinking and gut reactions.

Myles Avery

Myles Avery is an electronic composer and producer. While nerdy about things like integrating Max programming into modular systems, he's equally passionate about lush, intricate songwriting. With a knack for spacious, dreamy electronics, Myles incorporates unique, meticulously crafted musical ideas with familiar, pop-culture samples that encompass everything from boom-bappy soul to dark, late night grooves. The result is a deliciously unpredictable dreamland that simultaneously moves dance floors while demanding a later, critical listen.
