THIS AND THAT

At The Chocolate Factory Theater at 38-33 24th Street, Long Island City

Wednesdays - Saturdays at 7pm

Previews 9/7 - 9/9, official opening 9/10

The Bushwick Starr is thrilled to partner with The Chocolate Factory Theater to present The Institute of Useless Activity's THIS AND THAT, co-created by international theater director Phil Soltanoff (2020 Herb Alpert Award recipient) and performer/puppeteer Steven Wendt (Blue Man Group). What is THIS? What is THAT? - THAT imagines the creation of the universe. Video equipment comes to life by the cranking of tripod knobs, zooming in and out, maneuvering visual feedback loops, dissolving images together and apart, creating an abstract video puppetry before our eyes. No pre-recorded video, no tricks. THIS is about people - their romantic sense of longing, loss, alienation and near miss... a cowboy sleeps under the stars, a family puts their child to sleep for the night, a crooner serenades his lover, a jazz pianist fantasizes while he plays. Hand shadow vignettes, inspired by Henry Moore sculptures, morph from one scene to another.

The Bushwick Starr and The Public Theater present:

World Premiere

DARK DISABLED STORIES

By Ryan J. Haddad
Directed by Jordan Fein

March 2023 *exact dates TBA

Acclaimed writer and performer Ryan J. Haddad makes his off-Broadway playwriting debut with the hilarious and audacious DARK DISABLED STORIES.

Haddad's newest autobiographical play is a series of unforgiving vignettes about the strangers he encounters while navigating a city (and a world) not built for his walker and cerebral palsy. Directed by Jordan Fein, DARK DISABLED STORIES probes implicit ableism and the assumptions we make about people we'll never really know.

This production will feature American Sign Language, open captions, and audio description integrated into every performance.

The Bushwick Starr and JAG Productions present:

demons.

Connelly Theater

When the death of their patriarch draws family members home, they must reckon with grief and the haunting realities that death often brings to the surface.
