The Billie Holiday Theatre presents the tour de force one-man show An Adam Experiment written and performed by Michael Chenevert with creative collaborator Hollis King, opening on Fri, Jan 12 at 7PM, Sat, Jan 13 at 2PM and Sun, Jan 14 at 3PM at the Billie Holiday Theatre, Brooklyn, NY 11216.
An Adam Experiment provides a rare glimpse into the life of Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., an historical icon who fought for social justice and equality during the Civil Rights Movement, while also wrestling with his own demons. An Adam Experiment was a part of the 2016 - 2017 Frank Silvera Writers' Workshop, an arts institution in-residence at RestorationART, as part of a pipeline initiative that moves works from the developmental writing phase to The Billie Holiday Theatre mainstage.
"What is most exciting about An Adam Experiment, beyond Michael's powerful storytelling, is that it is the first play to make it through the pipeline initiative from The Workshop to The Billie," stated Dr. Indira Etwaroo, Executive Director, The Billie Holiday Theatre at RestorationART. "I am sure I speak for Garland [Lee Thompson, Jr.] when I say that we're thrilled...the pipeline is working."
"I am honored to bring An Adam Experiment to one of my theater homes in New York City, The Billie Holiday Theatre," stated Michael Chenevert, actor and writer. "As a young boy, I was called 'Little Adam' because people often said that I looked like Adam Clayton Powell Jr. I feel like his story has always been a part of me, inside me, and so bringing it to Brooklyn with such a rich history for black politicians is a dream come true."
An Adam Experiment will be stage managed by Carolyn Reich. Lighting Design by Devin Cameron and scenic design, costume and props by Hollis King.
