THEATER 2020, Brooklyn Heights' NY Innovative Theater Award nominated professional theater company is pleased to announce a ONE NIGHT ONLY special event on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 7pm. Press is invited.
Join us for an evening of merriment as Richard Stillman and his friend Flip Peters take you back to the days of Vaudeville! The Spirit of Vaudeville is a musical variety show that celebrates the vaudevillians of the jazz age. The tale is told through banjo strumming, tap dancing, storytelling, ukulele and mandolin solos, and wacky Charleston dances. Great for the whole family!
"The Spirit of Vaudeville opens with a singing, banjo strumming, tap dancing rendition of the 1920's hit The Charleston. I learned the song from the great vaudeville string musician, Roy Smeck who was in Al Jolson's talking picture The Jazz Singer. This musical variety show has a lively quality but there are poignant moments as well. Each of the musical numbers is introduced with a short story that I act out to guitar accompaniment. The audience will leave the theater with their hearts a bit lighter as they have just been touched by The Spirit of Vaudeville." - Richard Stillman
