This December Stairwell Theater is mounting a holiday run of
Alfred Jarry's anarchic masterpiece Ubu Rex. Directed by
Sam Gibbs and featuring the musical direction of Matthew Gibbs, the play makes a circus Cabaret Poland out of AVIV in Brooklyn for a post-apocalyptic dinner party. The nine person cast and three-piece band use music, clowning, food, drinks and an audience "splash zone" to create an unforgettable piece of environmental theater. Stairwell will also perform three "blowout" shows on 12/8, 12/13 at 8pm and 12/20 at 8pm featuring an extra hour of mingling with the characters, buskers and a post-show concert by one of three special guest bands, including Amour Obscur.
The twelve-person ensemble is aided by stage manager Natalie King, production designer Anna Grace Carter, and dramaturg Ariana Karp.
The dates of performance are 12/8 at 8pm, 12/12 at 5pm, 12/13 at 4pm and 8pm, 12/15 at 8pm, 12/19 at 5pm and 12/20 at 5pm and 8pm.
