Spellbound Theatre, New York's award-winning theatre exclusively for young people ages 0-5 has announced their 2017-18 season of public performances at the Old Stone House in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
As New York's only theater exclusively for early childhood audiences, Spellbound's sixth season features the return of their most popular "pop-up" storytelling and puppetry performances, as well as "Babywild", an interactive performance made just for 6-18 month olds.
Spellbound Theater is one of only a few companies in the United States creating professional, high-quality theater for very young audiences. They were recently recognized as a leader in this emerging field by the American Alliance of Theater Education with the "Outstanding New Children's Theater Company Award".Spellbound believes that very young children deserve sophisticated and professional performance made with their interests and abilities in mind. Artistic Director Lauren Jost:
"Young children are deeply engaged in the world around them and asking big questions about who they are, how the world works, and where their place is in it. They deserve theatre that addresses those questions with the same level of artistry and professionalism as any other age group.
We know very young children won't behave like an adult audience, so we build theater experiences that meet their needs and provide opportunities to touch, talk, and move along with the performers. We aim to create a rich and magical theatrical experience that also allows them to be themselves and engage authentically."
Spellbound's 2017-18 season includes seven original performances created by Spellbound artists - an ensemble of storytellers, puppeteers, musicians, designers, and performing artists.
