Shawn Wickens will record a live performance of secret material at 10pm on Saturday, January 20 at the Countdown Theater located at 141 S. 5th St., Office West #2, Brooklyn, NY. Tickets are by donation and available at the door - first come, first served. Space is limited as venue can uncomfortably hold 30 people max. This "secret" recording is a follow-up to Wickens's debut album, a collection of sets he recorded at open mics titled Silly Jokes @ Sorry Open Mics. It is available on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon and more.
"The topic of this second album I'm keeping a secret because, to be honest, if people heard what it was about I think they would laugh... but then just not come. My wish is that the execution of this idea transcends the idea itself, so you gotta keep it a secret and surprise the audience in the moment," shares Wickens. "Friend and fellow comedian, Lex Morales, once saw a set of mine and told me, 'You don't really tell jokes. You just sort of f*ck with the audience.' Sadly... he might be right."
Known for playing with a variety of performance types, Shawn Wickens has previously told jokes on stage after staying awake for 24 hours, told "brain injury jokes" he wrote during a concussion, made the audience sign non-disclosure agreements for a one-of-a-kind and one-time-only private performance plus he's taken his signature show Good Joke/Bad Joke Bingo to Baltimore, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Hartford, Richmond, Raleigh, New Orleans and the Rochester Fringe Festival. Wickens is also co-founder of New York City's Bad Theater Fest and Bad Film Fest which are less interested in rating the quality of theater and film but in exhibiting and celebrating a wide-range of works.
Time Out New York has said of Wickens, "Expect a set that's hilarious, delirious and refreshingly raw." His shows have been named Critics' Picks by the Pittsburgh City Paper, Athens News, Rochester City News and bestnewyorkcomedy.com.
His next scheduled performance is a half hour of stand-up comedy at Eastville Comedy Club on Saturday, January 27 at 6pm with Comedian Perri Gross opening.
Wickens previously Interviewed more than a thousand people for his first book, How to Lose Your Virginity, a collection of shocking and humorous loss of virginity stories, and his writing has been honored by the LA Horror Film Festival, 48 Hr Film Festival, and The Paley Center for Media.
