Nimbus Dance Works returns to the Brooklyn Academy Of Music: BAM Fisher, April 21-22, 2018 featuring the World Premiere of Samuel Pott's Esther, an edgy interpretation of the complex First Testament heroine, Esther, whose rise to power entangles themes of feminism, tribalism, and seduction. Esther is performed with live music by the fiercely adventurous Brooklyn Indie-Rock band, Sky-Pony, led by Tony-nominated lead singer Lauren Worsham (Drama Desk Award winner and Tony Award nominee) and musician/writer Kyle Jarrow (Obie Award winner). Nimbus also presents World Premieres by Darshan Singh Bhuller (former Artistic Director of London's Phoenix Dance Theater and choreographer of Mapping, acclaimed work from recent Nimbus seasons), and Vernard Gilmore (renowned dancer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater).

Nimbus Dance Works focuses its work on the intersection between high-level dance and innovative ways of involving communities and audiences. Through critically acclaimed performances and collaborations with notable composers and visual artists, Nimbus weaves together artistic excellence and community engagement. Performers with Nimbus Dance Works are top-tier dance artists drawn from renowned companies worldwide. Company repertory features work by Artistic Director Samuel Pott, and by commissioned choreographers such as Pedro Ruiz (Cuba/USA), Huang Yi (Taiwan), Korhan Basaran (Turkey), and Darshan Singh Bhuller (United Kingdom).

Entering the company's 13th season, Nimbus presents twice annual home seasons in Jersey City, annual New York City seasons and tours regularly throughout the United States, impacting more than 16,000 people each year. Nimbus Dance Works manages a 13,000 ft² dance facility in Downtown Jersey City which houses the organization's studios, performance space, school, presenting series, and offices. Nimbus' outreach programs serve over 6,000 youth each year.www.nimbusdanceworks.org

Samuel Pott (Artistic Director) founded Nimbus Dance Works in 2005 drawing on a deeply held personal belief in the value that the arts can play in bringing people and communities together. Under his direction the company has grown each year adding new repertory, programs, community initiatives, and performances at venues including NJPAC, Jacob's Pillow and BAM. As a soloist with the Martha Graham Dance Company, his repertoire included iconic roles in many of Graham's classic works.

Mr. Pott founded the School of Nimbus Dance Works in 2012, making high quality dance training available to Jersey City youth regardless of financial background. Mr. Pott founded and directs NimbusPRESENTS, a Jersey City performance series featuring local and national performers. Mr. Pott received Choreography Fellowships from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts in 2008 and 2016 and received a Governor's Award for Artistic Excellence in 2012. Mr. Pott was one of 25 arts leaders nationally selected for the Association of Performing Arts Professionals' (APAP) inaugural Leadership Fellows Program. He co-founded the Jersey City Arts Council and serves on its Advisory Board and on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee for ArtPride New Jersey.

Brooklyn-based band Sky-Pony serves up lush, lyrical, often cheeky indie-pop with a healthy dose of theatrics. They incorporate costumes, choreography and projections into their high-energy live shows. The group is a collaboration between singer/actress Lauren Worsham (Drama Desk Award winner and Tony Award nominee) and her musician/writer husband Kyle Jarrow (Obie Award winner, bookwriter for Broadway's SpongeBob SquarePants and creator of the CW television series Valor). It also features the talents of guitarist Kevin Wunderlich, drummer Perry Silver, bassist Eric Day, cellist David Blasher, and backup singers Kristin Piacentile, Sharone Sayegh and Katie Lee Hill.

Sky-Pony released their debut LP Beautiful Monster on Knitting Factory Records in 2015, to critical acclaim. Their stage show The Wildness played at NYC's Ars Nova Theater in 2016, garnering a Lortel Award nomination for Outstanding Musical.
