What Will The Neighbors Say? is excited to announce our latest benefit performance evening, a co-production with artist Jose? Rivera Jr. A frequent collaborator of WWTNS?, Rivera Jr. is an innovative and talented musician, dancer, and performance artist of Puerto Rican-American descent who centers his work on a queer future for all. The benefit, LQQK FE?TE: A New Performance Series of New Music Dance, Video, and Interdisciplinary Art, will raise necessary funds for his upcoming visual EP, "LQQK, The Way I Look."
The event will be held at Williamsburg venue The Counting Room, 44 Berry St, Brooklyn, NY 11211 (on the corner of North 11th street) on December 4th 2018 at 7pm, with shows startin g at 8pm . Tickets are priced at $15 in advance and $20 at the door, and are available at www.lqqk.eventbrite.com. All proceeds directly benefit the creation and collaborators working with Rivera Jr. on "LQQK, The Way I Look."
Rivera Jr. will headline the evening of performance, previewing music, choreography and visuals from the EP. Other performers include Bree Breeden & Kathleen Kelley (Proteo Media), Benedict Nguyen (Whitney, Issue Project Room), Cesar Gonza?lez and Cristina Ramos (Studio G, SLT), Karl Ronneburg (UMich, New School), Pepper Levain (Berlin, VICE DE), Sarah Hartshorne (Lady Parts Justice, ANTM), and a video installation piece from WWTNS? Co-Artistic Director Jorge Morales-Pico? (Big Dance Theater, Meredith Monk). Music will be provided by Brooklyn-based DJ and queer nightlife staple DJ TRx , while fellow WWTNS? Co-Artistic Director J ames Clements will act as master of ceremonies.
"LQQK, The Way I Look" is the debut visual EP by the artist Rivera Jr . Stereotypes of masculinity and the illusion of "fitting in" metamorphose as style, still and moving image, dance, and music move toward a queer future for all. A selection of the music and video will premiere in concert at The Glove in Bushwick, Brooklyn, as part of the 2019 Exponential Festival, featuring Rivera Jr. , Breeden , and Nguyen . Music and lyrics are by Rivera Jr., Gonza?lez , and Ronneburg , with video by Proteo Media .
