Jeremy Schonfeld's IRON & COAL Gets U.S. Premiere at National Sawdust

For one night only, singer/songwriter Jeremy Schonfeld's Iron & Coal will make its U.S. debut at Brooklyn's National Sawdust. The original concept album will be presented in concert with vibrant multimedia content on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at National Sawdust (80 North 6th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11249).

Iron & Coal is a multimedia fueled rock concert about the incredible bond between father and son, a bond that transcends time, and defies evil. Both high-octane and hauntingly beautiful, Iron & Coal brings the ghosts of one man's past out into the light, so that his son might emerge from his shadow.

Schonfeld will be joined by Contemporaneous, an ensemble of versatile musicians whom the New York Times have praised for giving have "ferocious, focused performance[s]," and singer GrayDon Paul Yosowitz to present this one night only musical event. The concert will be conducted by David Bloom and directed by Kevin Newbury. The multimedia content will bring Tom Seltzer's original album artwork to life. The concert is produced by Evan Bernardin.

Jeremy Schonfeld, writer

Is a celebrated singer/songwriter, composer/lyricist, occasional actor, producer, mentor and teacher. His concept album Iron & Coal, produced in Vienna Austria with producing partners Beat4Feet (Martin Gellner and Werner Stranka), was nominated for several Amadeus Awards (Austrian Grammys). Previously, Jeremy created the album 37 Notebooks, featuring vocal performance contributions from friends including Adam Pascal, Julia Murney, Tracie Thoms, Amy Spanger, Lauren Kennedy, and Donnie Kehr. Additional albums include Drift and Blue Skies and All, plus song contributions to the movie soundtrack for Clear Blue Tuesday (co-starring Jeremy) and the featured single Babazille Mahlangu written for the Broadway in South Africa campaign.

Kevin Newbury, director

Is an opera, theatre, film and event director based in New York City. Kevin has directed over fifty original productions and his work has been presented by many top opera companies, festivals and symphonies including the Park Avenue Armory, Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, The Santa Fe Opera, Barcelona Liceu, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Minnesota Opera, The San Francisco Symphony, L'Opera de Montreal, The Prototype Festival, Urban Arias (DC), Bard Summerscape, Portland Opera, Opera Philadelphia, Philadelphia Orchestra, Seattle Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Cincinnati Opera, The Virginia Arts Festival and The Wexford Festival in Ireland, among many others.

David Bloom, conductor

Is founding co-artistic director of Contemporaneous. David has conducted over 150 world premieres for such presenters as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Walker Art Center, Merkin Concert Hall, and the Bang on a Can Marathon. He has worked with artists and ensembles as diverse as David Byrne, Donnacha Dennehy, JACK Quartet, Courtney Love, Dylan Mattingly, Andrew Norman, Present Music, NOW Ensemble, Dawn Upshaw, and Julia Wolfe. Especially active as a conductor of new opera throughout the U.S. and Canada, David serves as music director for developing and touring productions of works by Judd Greenstein, Matt Marks, Anthony Gatto, and Todd Almond. He has recorded for the Innova, New Amsterdam, Mexican Summer, Mona, and Starkland labels.

CONTEMPORANEOUS, ensemble

Is an ensemble of 21 musicians whose mission is to bring to life the music of now. Based in New York City and active throughout the United States, Contemporaneous has performed over 90 concerts at a wide range of venues, including Lincoln Center, Park Avenue Armory, (le) poisson rouge, Merkin Concert Hall, Baryshnikov Arts Center, St. Ann's Warehouse, and the Bang on a Can Marathon. The ensemble has worked with artists as diverse as David Byrne, Donnacha Dennehy, Yotam Haber, Dawn Upshaw, and Julia Wolfe.

TOM SELTZER, multimedia artist

Earned a B.A. in History at Columbia University, dropped out of Pratt Institute, and spent several years doing design and publications on Wall Street - for Nomura Securities, Deutsche Bank and finally Lehman Brothers, whose collapse, he maintains, can in no way be traced back to him. After spending time thereafter designing, illustrating and Art Directing for various publications around New York, he founded Seltzer Creative Group (formerly Seltzer Studio) in 2003, whose mission is to create agency level designs for businesses that can't afford agency level prices. SSG is located near the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, NY, whose sudden glut of hipsters, he maintains, can in no way be traced back to him.
