JACK Presents Stacey Rose's THE DANGER: A HOMAGE TO STRANGE FRUIT

The Danger: A Homage to Strange Fruit is a theatrical symphony in four movements that contemplates the legacy of violence against Black bodies in America. Inspired by the mysterious hanging death of 17-year-old Lennon Lacy in 2014 in Bladenboro, NC, this dystopic ghost play follows the interracial couple He and She into the world of The Station, a long ago abandoned rail station waiting room, an in-between place that houses Black souls who left the earth in violent ways and who constantly seek their way home. In 2015, Rose received NYU's Rita Goldberg Prize for The Danger -- an award recognizing the best play by a graduate or undergraduate student.

Stacey Rose (Playwright) is a theatre artist from Elizabeth, NJ by way of Charlotte, NC. She holds a B.A. in Theatre from UNC Charlotte and an M.F.A. in Dramatic Writing at NYU where she was honored with The Goldberg Prize for her play The Danger: A Homage to Strange Fruit. Stacey has presented work at The Fire This Time Festival, The Bushwick Starr, Mosaic Theater and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater. She was a 2015-16 Dramatist Guild Fellow, a 2017-18 Playwrights' Center Many Voices Fellow, and a 2018 Sundance Theatre Lab Fellow. She is currently a 2018 - 21 Core Writer at The Playwrights' Center. Stacey's work celebrates and explores Blackness, Black identity, Black history, the dilemma of life as the "other."

Tiffany Nichole Greene (Director) is freelance director and casting director for Dallas Theater Center. She holds an MFA from Brown University/Trinity Rep, she is both an Alum of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab and Soho Rep Directors Lab, and she is a two-time Drama League finalist. Past productions include: Barrington Stage (Well-Intentioned White People), SpeakEasy Stage (Between Riverside and Crazy), Trinity Rep (Skeleton Crew), and Triad Stage (A Raisin in the Sun). Elijah Caldwell (Music Supervision) is on voice faculty and admissions at Marymount Manhattan College. He's been seen around town in A Strange Loop, Drama Desk Nominated Generations, at Soho Rep, Madame Infamy at NYMF, Mr. Chickee's Funny Money at the Atlantic Theatre Company, just to name a few. Elijah obtained a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and his Masters of Music from New York University - Steinhardt.
