Irondale, Brooklyn's leading theatrical ensemble producing immersive and non-traditional performance experiences, will present the M. Edgar Rosenblum Award to Tony Award winner, actress, singer and director, Phylicia Rashad.
Rashad is being recognized for her distinguished work on stage, television, and film, and her commitment to education. Through her work, Rashad was named the first recipient of the Denzel Washington Chair in Theatre at Fordham University, and is the recipient of Honorary Doctorates from Carnegie Mellon University and Spelman College.
The evening will include a special performances by Broadway's Kyle Beltran and Krystolyn Lloyd (Dear Evan Hansen). The emcee for the evening will be Irondale alum, Damen Scranton, and Patrena Murray will take a night off from her performance in the Oresteia at the Shakespeare Theater in Washington DC to present the award to Ms. Rashad.
The benefit will raise funds for Irondale's renowned programs, as well as Brecht in Exile, the company's next large scale theatrical undertaking: staging Mother Courage, and The Good Person of Szechwan, and remounting Life of Galileo over the next 3 seasons. Since its inception in 1983, Irondale has created 85 Off-Broadway productions, established To Protect, Serve and Understand, an ongoing workshop to build better relationships between members of the community and officers of the NYPD, and served more than 30,000 students, teachers, and members of the New York City community through its STEM to STEAM, school residencies and Irondale Young Company programs.
