Vocalist and pianist Hannah Reimann and her seven-piece band honor the iconic career of the incomparable Joni Mitchell in commemoration of Joni's 70th birthday at Littlefield Performance Space on November 15th, with a selection of songs from Mitchell's most influential era: the late sixties to the early seventies. Doors are at 7:00pm; show starts at 8:00pm.
Ms. Reimann will be joined onstage by Scott Chasolen (of The Machine) on keys and piano; Michele Temple (of Pere Ubu) on guitar and bass; Steve Bloom (of The Last of the International Playboys) on guitar and bass; Skip Krevens on pedal steel and electric guitar; Michael Devellis on sax, Ryan Vaughn on drums and Gina Yowell-Gerszberg on vocals.
A New York City-based singer/songwriter, filmmaker, composer and actress, Hannah Reimann grew up classically trained and also forming rock bands with her teenage friends. "I first discovered Joni Mitchell's music when I was thirteen", says Reimann. "I collected her records and, like many of the women of my generation, memorized the lyrics of those amazing albums: Clouds, Ladies of the Canyon, For the Roses, Court and Spark, Miles of Aisles. A couple of summers ago, I sang a selection of Mitchell's work on St. Barth's while on a three-week engagement there. At that time, my father was growing increasingly ill with a fatal disease. Going through my own blue period, I decided to study and perform the classic album Blue at The Bitter End earlier this year. It was a powerful and healing experience. Joni Mitchell's music and career continue to inspire and motivate me and I'm blessed to have the opportunity to share the gift of her music as part of a celebration of her long and fruitful life."As a long-time chamber musician and piano soloist, Ms. Reimann specializes in the eclectic music of Astor Piazzolla; her arrangements of Piazzolla's music with Paul Coletti have been heard internationally. Her CD, First Songs successfully introduced her "extraordinary voice" (XM Radio) to pop listeners. Following in the socially active tradition of Joni Mitchell, Ms. Reimann's gospel-accented single, "I Have a Dream," was written and performed for a 2008 NYC Obama fundraiser saluting Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Complete Unknowns, Ms. Reimann's opening band for the evening, are known throughout Manhattan and Long Island for their performance of the music of Bob Dylan. They feature Michael Weiskopf on vocals, harmonica and guitar; Randolph A. Hudson III on lead guitar; Taka Shimizu on bass and Jim Lawler on drums.
