Back at the Start: A Situation Comedy is an outlandish, surreal six-part audio drama released on podcast platforms from award-winning playwright Matthew Freeman (That Which Isn't, Silver Spring) performed by celebrated playwright and actor David Greenspan (She Stoops To Comedy, Four Saints in Three Acts). Following the structure of a classic sitcom, a reality that's often in stasis, the audio drama exposes the very American desire to "Not Change" and "Be Happy," ultimately creating an undercurrent of panic. Mining Freeman's signature absurdist view of contemporary life, Back at the Start: A Situation Comedy is a meditation on a storytelling medium that reflects American values: cheerfully, dreadfully stuck in place.
Playwright Matthew Freeman joined a long line of storied playwrights - including Lucas Hnath, Mona Mansour, and James Ijames - when he won 2021's prestigious Kesselring Prize, which is given annually by the National Arts Club.
Back at the Start: A Situation Comedy is written and directed by Matthew Freeman. The audio is produced by Sean Elias-Reyes, with additional mixing by Nate Brailer. It features original theme music by composer Peter Vitale of Ten Thousand Things (Minneapolis). Back at the Start is the latest audio drama released by Theater Accident, a Brooklyn-based based independent theater company. Other audio releases include Places I Have Heard Voices and Predictions. ###
