On the heels of their successful production Brothers from the Bottom starring Wendell Pierce, a play about gentrification, The Billie Holiday Theatre (BHT) is pleased to announce the world premiere of Dancing on Eggshells by award-winning playwright Cynthia G. Robinson and directed by the Billie Holiday Theatre's own Cezar Williams.
The Billie Holiday Theatre takes on a provocative subject with Dancing on Eggshells, (set to run April 23-May 17) as a ballerina struggles with the trauma of being raised in a family plagued by domestic violence. Haunted by childhood memories, she confronts a secret that threatens to destroy her.
Dealing with culturally relevant subject matter is the mission of The Billie Holiday Theatre, says artistic director Jackie Alexander. "Theatre should not only entertain, but also educate. Dancing on Eggshells exposes the pain and destruction of domestic violence, while reminding us that redemption is always possible."
Dancing on Eggshells playwright Cynthia G. Robinson holds a B.A. in English from Syracuse University and an M.A. in English Education from New York University. Her post-graduate studies include English Education at Trinity College, University of Oxford in the U.K. Cynthia's plays include: Ascension, Peola's Passing, Nightfall, Gold Star Mother, Thunder: A Musical Memoir, and The Panacea.
