The Bushwick Starr and Studio 42 will present the world premiere production of Important Hats of the Twentieth Century by Nick Jones (Emmy-nominated for Orange is the New Black, Trevor), directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel (Hand to God, Trevor). The production will run from October 7th through 31st, 2015, at The Bushwick Starr. The cast and full creative team will be announced in the spring of 2015.

In Important Hats of the Twentieth Century, clothes make the man. And in 1920s New York, men of distinction make the clothes.

In fact, nary a conversation about ladies' apparel goes by without the name Sam Greevy crossing everyone's lips. That is until revolutionary designer Paul Roms unveils a radically comfy creation: the sweatshirt. His designs seem from another world, an era of slovenly conformity. With the very tenets of beauty at stake, Sam vows to make a hat so hallowed, so divine, that even stars of radio will become famous! But will his aspirations reach beyond mortal safety? And will Roms' endless cascade of unisex novelties rush in some kind of perverse egalitarian utopia? Meanwhile, in 1996 Albany, who keeps bursting out of that teenage stoner's closet and stealing his clothes? Noir comedy is in this season at Studio 42.

Nick Jones is a writer for theater, television and film. His most recent play was Trevor, a dark comedy about a lethally frustrated show biz chimp, which was critically acclaimed in New York and Chicago. His previous play The Coward was produced at Lincoln Center/LTC3, where it was nominated for 4 Lortel Awards (winning 2) and is now being made into a motion picture starring Adam Driver and Chris O'Dowd. His show Jollyship the Whiz-Bang at Ars Nova, a puppet rock musical about pirates, also received an extended critically acclaimed run, and was subsequently revived for the Under the Radar Festival at the Public Theater. Nick was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. He earned his Literature/Creative Writing BA from Bard College and a Lila Acheson Wallace Playwriting degree from Juilliard. He has received theater commissions from Lincoln Center, Ars Nova, The Old Globe, Manhattan Theater Club, The Huntington, Center Theater Group and South Coast Rep.
