Brooklyn's On Stage At Kingsborough Announces 2018 Spring Performing Arts Season  Image

On Stage at Kingsborough, a leading performing arts presenter located at Brooklyn's Kingsborough Community College presents its 2017-2018 season, featuring world class artists from around the globe. On Stage at Kingsborough brings top notch performing arts to Southern Brooklyn with an eclectic roster of artists spanning multiple genres including cabaret, dance, music, and family programming. The full season runs through May 19, 2018.

Internationally renowned Russian jazz star and saxophone virtuoso Igor Butman will kick off the 2018 spring season, along with his quintet and special guest, award-winning piano and vocal jazz prodigy Oleg Akkuratov, among other surprise guest vocalists. In 2011, Butman earned the high rank of People's Artist of Russia and in 2015 he was awarded the prestigious UNESCO Five Continents Medal. Fans of the Olympics Games might recognize Butman's sounds, where he has performed at every competition since 2004- along with almost every major jazz festival in the world.

Other musical highlights include famed Irish/Celtic rock group The Prodigals, who will have the audience dancing in the aisles with "Claddagh," a sparkling multi-media show that fuses the groups' iconic music with world-champion Irish and tap dancers, and a modern-day Irish fairy tale narrated by Bandleader and Broadway actor Gregory Grene. Pop music icon Frankie Valli's quartet The Modern Gentlemen, have wowed audiences worldwide alongside of Valli on his world tours. They will perform their Signature Sound, blending their modern voices with tight four-part harmonies in classic Motown, Pop, Rock, and Doo Wop hits. The group has appeared onstage with The Beach Boys, The Manhattan Transfer, Tony Bennett, Smokey Robinson and more.

Join MusicTalks for an intimate Valentine's Day performance, "For The Love Of Jazz," as part of On Stage at Kingsborough's Jazz At The Lighthouse series. Taking place in a venue located inside a modern lighthouse, the audience can enjoy wine, cheese and picturesque views. This romantic night of Valentine's Day-inspired jazz ballads, will feature award-winning vocalist Thana Alexa and special guest Michael Mayo, accompanied by the Israeli MusicTalks Jazz Quartet, as they perform some of the best known flirtatious duets by jazz icons such as Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. Also at the Lighthouse, "A Sophisticated Reunion,"a special musical celebration of jazz legend Duke Ellington, featuring hits such as "It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)," "Hit Me With A Hot Note," and the title song, "Sophisticated Lady." This musical celebration of Ellington's famed catalogue will feature TONY nominee Valarie Pettiford, along with Terri Klausner and Ty Stephens who met on Broadway as original cast members of Sophisticated Ladies and perform a critically-acclaimed show under the musical direction of Ron Abel, Arranger/Conductor for luminaries such as Bette Midler, Johnny Mathis, Liza Minelli, Mandy Patinkin, and Patti LuPone.

From Argentina, TANGO LOVERS' Gold Label will deliver a gorgeous evening of steamy tango, from the rhythms of the Golden Age of 1940's/50's Buenos Aires to the beats of contemporary metropolitan tango. TANGO LOVERS' Gold Label received a Latin ACE Award for Best Musical Show of the Year in 2015.

Cabaret aficionados will be delighted by this season's offerings. Join Tony Nominee Jarrod Spector for his brand-new show "Jukebox Life," which takes the audience on Jarrod's journey to the bright lights of Broadway. Backed by the sounds of a red-hot seven-piece band and intertwined with videos from throughout his career, Spector will wow with his gorgeous pipes, which the audience may recognize from his roles as "Frankie Valli" in Jersey Boys and "Barry Mann" in Beautiful. Spector will be starring as Sonny Bono in the musical "The Cher Show," which is coming to Broadway in 2018. Broadway will visit Brooklyn with TONY Award winner Randy Graff's "Made in Brooklyn...Bound for Broadway," a musical celebration of Brooklyn's own famed songwriters and artists, featuring hits like "Alfie," "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do," "On The Sunny Side of The Street," "People," and more. Graff originated the role of Fantine in Broadway's " Les Miserables" and starred in such Broadway shows as " Falsettos," "High Society," and " Moon Over Buffalo." Graff received a TONY and Drama Desk Award for the hit production, City of Angels.

For children or the young at heart, On Stage at Kingsborough will offer several unique theatre productions that will inspire and uplift. All family shows will offer fans an opportunity to meet the cast post-show. From Vital Theatre Company comes "Flight School The Musical," a charming musical where a Penguin that is told that he can't fly eventually finds his wings with the help of his friends, and is able to flip, flap, fly away! "How I Became A Pirate" from Dallas Children's Theater is a swashbuckling musical adventure that follows a band of comical pirates as they search for the perfect spot to bury their treasure. This spirited musical is sure to leave young mateys singing and dancing in the aisles!
