"Are you sure/That we are awake?

It seems to me/That yet we sleep, we dream." ~William Shakespeare

"To Dream a World" tells the story of a young boy named Will, who finds his inspiration in his dreams. Full of meaning and fantasy, the four imaginative worlds he explores represent the four seasons. This is where he meets the characters that later end up in his plays.

"The BMS musical theater program offers a unique opportunity for young actors to participate in original works incorporating acting, singing, and dance that are staged at a high level of production value in the BMS Playhouse for the Brooklyn community," said Piruz Partow, executive director of Brooklyn Music School. "We are particularly excited about our spring production, which will bring Shakespeare's imagery and poetic imagination to life in a way that children can relate to and captures the sense of wonder that informs every child's natural creativity."

BROOKLYN OPERA WORKS (BOW) at BMS
We strive to create BOW as a place of both excellence and inclusiveness.

Founded in 2013 by Artistic Director Lina Tetriani, Brooklyn Opera Works (BOW) proudly features emerging stars in opera, theater, and dance. BOW is dedicated to making opera into a living art form that challenges and engages diverse contemporary audiences. During Summer Vocal Arts, it hosts three productions at BMS Playhouse: a fully produced opera, an original work of music, theater and dance for children, and the annual A Brooklyn Cabaret.
Emerging artists also participate in art song recitals and masterclasses held by world-class professionals.

BOW is dedicated to providing conservatory-level performing arts training and performance opportunities to new and emerging artists, as well as to mounting lesser known operas with fresh and engaging presentations. We encourage talented vocal artists who come from a range of different traditions and backgrounds to explore the operatic art form, while developing future audiences.

In 2018, The Brooklyn Opera Works/SVA program will present John Blow's baroque masterpiece "Venus and Adonis", accompanied by a baroque chamber ensemble, award-winning composer Christopher Cerrone's one-act opera "All Wounds Bleed". As well as the annual edition of "A Brooklyn Cabaret", directed by Anthony Laciura, and children's original musical adaptation of "Venus and Adonis".

BOW Salon series:

The history of salons span throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, bringing composers, musicians and lovers of music into an intimate setting. We are building an inclusive community based on this tradition where music professionals, amateurs and audience members are welcome. Each salon will have a theme such as mythology, war, heroism, a live performance, and a shared listening of recording of the greats. There will be wine and other refreshments for all to enjoy, with a fun discussion in the later half. Come join us and stay tuned for other exciting events that Brooklyn Opera Works has coming up.
