Brooklyn High School of Arts' Select Choir will accompany Moscow Ballet for a special performance of The Great Russian Nutcracker, December 9, 2:00 pm matinee and 7:00 pm, at Kings Theatre. As part of Moscow Ballet's acclaimed Musical Wunderkind program, the choir will accompany dancers in the "Waltz of the Snowflakes" at the end of Act I, and present a special pre-performance showcase. Moscow Ballet's "Musical Wunderkind" program, presented annually in cities featuring the company's Great Russian Nutcracker tour, provides experiential art enrichment for youth in communities in which it performs via Musical Wunderkind, New Horizons - A Children's Program for Life and Dance with Us programs. Brooklyn High School of the Arts was established in 2000 as the first academic arts high school in Brooklyn. The Women's Choir consists of 35 talented singers and is led by Vocal Director Christian McLeer. Vocal students receive four years of intensive study of music theory, vocal production and performance. Their repertoire includes classical, jazz, gospel and folk. The Brooklyn High School of the Arts' new Drama Program produces major productions such as William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and Arthur Miller's "The Crucible." The Brooklyn High School of the Arts' Performing Choir and Jazz Band received a rating of "Gold, with Distinction" on level 6 at the New York State School Music Association Competition in 2010.
