Blue Flamingo makes their Brooklyn debut with thisamericanplay in a vacant building in Park Slope. Created and performed by Genee Coreno, Cassandra Cushman, Chelsea Marie and Jonathan Schenk, directed by Eliza Laytner and Co-Produced by Laytner and Cameron Kalajian at 794 Union Street, Brooklyn, NY, August 6 - August 7, 2016.
It is election year at the Foundation of Betterment, and three strong and opinionated candidates are running to be president. The characters' desire for power is both inspiring and scary, and their hunger for social media insatiable. thisamericanplay asks who would make the best leader? Whose ideas ultimately resonate the most? And most importantly, who bakes the best cupcakes?
"The play is timely and absurdist" says co-producer Cameron Kalajian, "it's about how to co-exist with people who have radically different opinions than you do." Director Eliza Laytner continues, "I believe the act of coming together right now to create or watch live performance is more vital than ever. thisamericanplay tackles issues such competition and desire for power, and explores how both affect our political system."
