After a failed uprising, the few remaining members of a controversial organization hide on New York's outer islands. They're rudderless. They think their leader is dead...until someone claiming to be his wife washes ashore. She says he's alive. And he's looking for her. Black Revolutionary Theatre Workshop and A Laboratory for Actor Training are proud to present AFTERSWARM, a spiritual sequel to BRTW's genre-bending conservative night-terror, REVOLUTION.

Black Revolutionary Theatre Workshop (BRTW) is a Brooklyn-based theatre company that exists to explore and amplify the black experience. Founded in 2015, BRTW was inspired by the national conversation about Blackness following a series of horrific events from which our community is still reeling to this day. With its 2015 lynchpin piece, REVOLUTION, BRTW explores an intersectional cross-section of Black stories as in a hypothetical post-Trump America when Black activists push for a liberating revolution. Since REVOLUTION, BRTW has toured the northeast, bringing this piece and other original pieces to colleges, cultural organizations, social justice organizations, and theatres, such as HERE Arts Center and The Tank.
JACK's presenting season is made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts - Art Works program, New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, New Music USA's NYC New Music Impact Fund (made possible with funding from The Scherman Foundation's Katharine S. and Axel G. Rosin Fund), The Harkness Foundation for Dance, the Mental Insight Foundation, The Laura B. Vogler Foundation, The Bains Foundation, The Lida Foundation and M & T Charitable Foundation.
