Faced with a financial crisis that threatens the organization's survival, Big Apple Circus founders Paul Binder and Michael Christensen will make a special appearance at what could be the Circus' final performance - its closing show at Cunningham Park in Queens on Sunday, June 12th, beginning at 3:00 pm. Binder and Christensen will appear in the ring, appeal to the audience for its support and thank them for their loyalty over the years. They will also be available for interviews.
Big Apple Circus has been a New York institution for 38 years, bringing joy to countless circus goers. A nonprofit organization, it also serves children in hospitals, seniors and others with special needs. It recently announced that a $2 million deficit has left it in critical condition and in danger of having to close the Circus for good after this final show of its season. Since then, it has raised more than a quarter of that amount, through direct donations and a crowd-funding site, www.savethecircus.org, but it is still a long way from reaching the amount needed to continue.
