Bechdel Project, in developmental partnership with Atlanta Reclamation Studios, presents staged readings of Mavens of St. Catherines Island, part of the newly launched Interstate Program, November 5th (5pm) and November 6th (7pm) at Bechdel Project Headquarters in Greenpoint, Brooklyn (252 Green St. 3rd Floor) Reserve Tickets Here.

Written by Catherine Mew and SR Gentry and featuring Tanyah Hope Anderson, Denise Arribas, LaLa Cochran, Tamalyn Meller, Eden Mew, and Kiersten Wallace, Mavens of St. Catherines Island is a new full-length ghost play from an all Atlanta based team with unique arrangements of folk music in its second year of development with support from the Nexus Fund and The Warhol Foundation.

On Christmas Eve 1901, the third massive hurricane in a decade threatens Georgia's northern barrier islands. With all the ships of a diminished fleet on the raging waters, St Catherines Island is in line for a direct hit. As the five women left on the islet take to the lighthouse's watch room for refuge, only the bonds of sisterhood, the three horned hunter, and a few answered prayers will guarantee female Golden Isle culture continues through the night. But can these diverse women collectively make the sacrifices needed to survive and become Mavens of St Catherines Island?

The reading is presented as part of Bechdel Project's newly launched Interstate Program, a development and presenting program designed to amplify the voices of women in regional theatre communities outside of New York City. Preference is given to playwrights and creative teams telling stories through an intersectional feminist lens and pertaining to issues hyper local to their community or region. In particular, regions of the United States that actively suppress the rights of women, non-binary, and underrepresented genders.
