Monday August 4th, American Candy, Brooklyn's hottest Comedy group, and Playhouse Creatures Theatre will host a daylong blood drive at The Actors Fund Arts Center in Brooklyn. Donors are strongly encouraged to register in advance for this event. Playhouse Creatures will supply some delicious snacks and American Candy will supply the laughs (performing one of their original comedic songs every 45 minutes). One in three people will need a blood donation at some point in their lives, so come lend a pint!
Giving back to the community is a core mission for both of these 5-year-old companies. AMERICAN CANDY has become one of New York City's most popular sketch groups by giving its audiences edgy comedy and clever songs examining sex, race, class, pop culture and calling out hypocrisy in our society. Over the years they have hosted 25 sold out shows, shot 30 sketches and still found time to give back to the community, performing at nursing homes and political rallies.
PLAYHOUSE CREATURES THEATRE (PCTC) produces monthly: classic works, new works and special events, such as our annual Tennessee Williams Festival. PCTC gives back to the community through our childrens' program "Little Creatures Act Out", which offers theatre and life training for homeless and shelter kids in NYC. They will be hosting a free kids performance of David Harrell's show "A Little Potato and Hard to Peel" Wed August 6th. Details at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/782900.
So come meet two great companies, mingle with the artists, and help the community, one pint at a time.
