On Tuesday, April 16, the Asian American Arts Alliance and Slant'd Media will collaborate to present a free program designed to empower Asian Americans with tools to reclaim and celebrate their narratives. The workshop will be limited to 20 participants to create an intimate environment where participants will be encouraged to share their stories in their own voices.

Seasoned storytelling coaches will provide a short tutorial on the fundamentals and share techniques for effective storytelling. Through a series of exercises, attendees will work with each other and the coaches to shape their stories. Attendees will also have a chance to share their stories in a safe and supportive environment.

Taking place during New York City's 15th annual Immigrant Heritage Week celebration, the workshops will be led by Niccolo Aeed and Adil Ibrahim. Niccolo is a black/Palestinian writer and director based in New York; he has written and directed plays and sketch comedy, is half of the comedy duo Marina & Nicco, and teaches storytelling with The Moth. Adil has more than a decade of experience in leading storytelling workshops and has worked with organizations ranging from community-based arts groups such as Muslim Writers Workshop and CityLore to advertising agencies such as Ogilvy & Mather to the Office of Manhattan Borough President.

A4 Executive Director Lisa Gold states, "In today's political and social climate, it is more important than ever to elevate immigrant stories and provide a safe space for Asian Americans to freely express their identity. Working together, we can ensure our stories are told, shining a light on Asian American heritage by giving our community the space, the power, and the confidence to find their voices."

"Storytelling is our core strength," says Krystie Mak, Co-Founder, Chief Creative Officer, and Editor-in-Chief of Slant'd. "We are excited to pilot this program which will hopefully serve as a model to empower more members of our community to share their stories which are often overlooked by the mainstream media."
