Alamo Drafthouse Downtown Brooklyn announced today the launch of a screening series dedicated to the films and career of Academy Award-nominated actress Jennifer Jason Leigh. "Jennifer Jason Leigh: Part One" will feature a selection of films from the decades-spanning career of the great actress, up to her first turn as writer/director with THE ANNIVERSARY PARTY.
One of the most dynamic and exciting actresses currently working in Hollywood, Jennifer Jason Leigh began her career as a teenager in the 1970s before breaking out in the 1982 film FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH. Since then, Leigh has staked out a career path that has defied classification, playing against type with roles ranging from a psychopathic roommate (SINGLE WHITE FEMALE) to a tragic prostitute named Tralala (LAST EXIT TO BROOKLYN) to satirist Dorothy Parker (MRS. PARKER AND THE VICIOUS CIRCLE) to a Dark Ages damsel sans distress (FLESH + BLOOD).
Launching on March 30th with her turn opposite Kathy Bates in DOLORES CLAIBORNE, this series will highlight Leigh's roles post-RIDGEMONT HIGH, spanning 1985 to 2001 and including collaborations with Paul Verhoeven, Joel & Ethan Coen, David Cronenberg, and Uli Edel. Other highlights of the series include MIAMI BLUES, THE HUDSUCKER PROXY, THE HITCHER, EXISTENZ, and GEORGIA, which Leigh also produced. All films in the series will be presented on 35mm with the exception of HEART OF MIDNIGHT, which screens April 12.
"Jennifer Jason Leigh: Part One" begins March 30th and will run through May 8th, and you can view the trailer for the screening series here. Tickets for all screenings are on sale now and can be purchased via the Alamo Drafthouse website.
