The American Opera Project's AOPTV free streaming service announces the addition of three music videos of songs from the chamber opera Letters That You Will Not Get: Women's Voices from the Great War that will be available this week beginning November 11, Veterans Day, formerly Armistice Day. The videos were made in early fall of 2020 with the artists self-recording in lockdown, and premiered last year in a series of online events. This will be the first time the videos will be available for free to the public.
The chamber opera Letters That You Will Not Get: Women's Voices from the Great War (composer Kirsten Volness, librettists Kate Holland, Susan Werbe) gives voice to American, British, European, Asian, African and Caribbean women affected by war, by setting to music the writings of women in World War I. The work is scored for an all-women ensemble of six singers and string quintet and is set to have its staged world premiere in May 2022 in New York City in a production by AOP.
The videos join other recent additions to AOPTV made by the Brooklyn-based organization during the past year including "Songs of Suffrage" - three art songs created to commemorate the 2019 Women's Suffrage Centennial, acknowledging the complex history of the fight for progress - and "First Glimpse 2020," a video album of 20 World Premiere songs created during AOP's 2019-21 cycle of Composers & the Voice, the groundbreaking fellowship program that has been the starting point for many of today's most recognized contemporary operas and artists.
