The word 'gypsy' means different things to different people. It is laden with stereotypes, but it's the association with unabashed, passionate music-making and a nomadic lifestyle — a search for freedom — that seems to hold the most truth.
Camerata's Gypsy sees the group join forces with virtuosic and versatile violinist, Shenzo – one the nation's leading improvisers.
We also welcome back our wonderful friend, Iraqi musician Nawres Alfreh, performing with Silvia Entcheva who draws on Bulgarian and Macedonian folk music in her singing.
Hear us crescendo into a thrilling 2016 season finale in QPAC's splendid Concert Hall as we trace the heritage of the gypsy style from its earliest times to its popular jazz form of today!
