Indie rock icons The Shins will appear for the first time in Brisbane in more than 10 years for one night only at the Concert Hall at Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) on Tuesday 5 December 2017.
The band's long awaited return is hot on the heels of their fifth studio album, Heartworms, which was self-produced and recorded by founder James Mercer and released earlier this year to wide acclaim. Heartworms is Mercer's most diverse lyrical palette to date and, marked by his inimitable melodic flair and distinct heart-tugging vocals, is a nostalgic nod to the album's predecessors while being unabashedly new.
Hailing from New Mexico and born from college dreams and a genuine love of pop music, The Shins have played to crowds at Madison Square Garden and blitzed slots at Coachella, Fuji Rock Festival and Splendour in the Grass.
With their debut release Oh, Inverted World - dubbed one of the noughties' 100 best albums by Rolling Stone - The Shins went on to win hearts worldwide and influence a new generation of artists with their jangly sunny pop.
The next three albums cemented the pop innovators' status as one of the defining indie acts of the new millennium, nabbing them a Grammy nomination, Billboard Top 10s, millions of record sales and widespread praise from critics along the way.
Joining Mercer at QPAC is Yuuki Matthews (bass), Jon Sortland (drums), Mark Watrous (guitar, keys, vocals), Casey Foubert (guitar) and Patti King (keys).
