Premiering in 2017, Twilight Notes is set to enchant audiences with a collection of intimate musical discoveries in the Concert Hall, Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) across six individual concerts, taking place from Wednesday 29 March to Monday 30 October 2017. Designed as an early evening escape from the ordinary, each concert will showcase some of Australia and the world's most cherished chamber artisans.
The first Twilight Notes concert, will showcase one of Finland's musical prodigies, pianist Paavali Jumppanen, on Wednesday 29 March 2017.
Equally at home as a concerto soloist or in recital, Paavali will perform works by fellow countryman, Sibelius, as well as Debussy and Beethoven.
Unique chamber music partnership Ensemble Liaison will perform the second Twilight Notes concert on Monday 5 June 2017.
Formed in 2006 Ensemble Liaison comprises David Griffiths (clarinet), Svetlana Bogosavljevic (cello) and Timothy Young (piano). Ensemble in Residence at Monash University, Ensemble Liaison will offer audiences an engaging performance of works by Brahms, Piazzolla, Gershwin and Bizet.
The third concert in the series, Enoch Arden, will be performed by John Bell AO (narrator) and Simon Tedeschi (piano), on Tuesday 4 July 2017.
Enoch Arden is an epic poem by great Romantic poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson set to music by German composer Richard Strauss. The poem tells the tragic tale of a shipwrecked seaman who returns home to find his wife married to his best friend, ultimately dying of a broken heart. John Bell, founder of Bell Shakespeare along with internationally acclaimed pianist, Simon Tedeschi bring a sense of magic to this tragic and enthralling story.
The fourth concert in the Twilight Notes series, Butterflying, features highlights of the No. 1 ARIA album of the same name performed by pianists Tamara-Anna Cislowska and the composer herself, Elena Kats-Chernin, on Monday 28 August 2017.
Performing on Tuesday 19 September 2017 in association with Brisbane Festival is the Debussy Quartet. Having established its reputation as one of the finest quartets touring and recording today, QPAC audiences will be treated to their internationally renowned performance style featuring works by Shostakovich, Beethoven and Ravel.
The final concert in Twilight Notes is the Joseph Tawadros Trio on Monday 30 October 2017.
Virtuoso of the seven-string oud and leading composer for this ancient instrument, Joseph Tawadros AM is joined by brother James on the req (a small hand-held tambourine) and Matt McMahon on piano.
