The Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) is proud to present Australia's community banding event BRASSFEST, a kaleidoscope of colour, music and exhilarating sound across two jam-packed days from Saturday 5 to Sunday 6 October 2013.
Featuring Australia's top brass bands and soloists in performance and competition, BRASSFEST will provide hours of themed entertainment in QPAC's acclaimed Concert Hall with a free concert in QPAC's Cascade Court on Saturday and concluding with a Gala Concert event on Sunday.
Showcasing 250 local and interstate performers from some of Australia's finest brass bands including the National and Australasian Champion, the Brisbane Excelsior Band and top bands from Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania, BRASSFEST is not-to-be missed.
The BRASSFEST Gala Concert will be hosted by popular Australian operatic baritone, Jason Barry-Smith and will feature performances by guest Australian and international soloists. The line up includes Brett Baker, solo trombone player for the world famous Black Dyke band in the United Kingdom, who having released six commercial CD recordings, is recognised as one of the most recorded Brass players, Mike Ford, heralded as New Zealand's greatest horn player, Todd Burke, acclaimed Brisbane based Trombone player and 16 year old cornet playerDominic Longhurst, Australia's youngest winner of the Australian Open Champion of Champions.
QPAC Chief Executive John Kotzas encouraged music lovers to come along and enjoy the entertainment on offer during the two day event which will be presented by QPAC for the first time this year.
"QPAC actively seeks opportunities to support events which showcase local and national artists and aims to provide a rich and diverse program that encourages community participation in the arts.
"We look forward to welcoming the two highly regarded Brisbane brass bands, the Excelsior Band and South Brisbane Federal, along with the five visiting bands and their supporters and the eight acclaimed guest soloists to QPAC next month. I am sure it will be a wonderful event for both participants and audiences alike," said Mr Kotzas.
The Federation of Australasian Brass Bands (FABB) Chairman, Rick Casagrande said he is pleased to be partnering with QPAC and Yamaha Music Australia to present this national brass band event.
"We are excited to be bringing together the best bands from around the country along with very high calibre guest soloists from across Australia and overseas and know that our musicians are thrilled to be playing in this wonderful venue.
"BRASSFEST offers an opportunity to not only profile the performers, but also provides a platform that brings cohesion and eminence to this national event, while still being accessible to the general public," said Mr Casagrande.
