The Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) today unveiled The Student Movement, an initiative aimed at ensuring students* from across Australia have access to the world class performance of Ballet Preljocaj's Snow White exclusive to QPAC this September.

QPAC will open up an entire performance (over 1700 seats in the Lyric Theatre) to students* from anywhere in Australia to see Ballet Preljocaj's Snow White on Wednesday 7 September 2016 for a very accessible $18 per ticket.

Tertiary and senior secondary students* of dance, theatre, music, design, fashion and the arts in particular are encouraged to take up this exclusive opportunity.

The 2016 QPAC International Series brings France's Ballet Preljocaj to Brisbane for an exclusive season of its evocative work Snow White at the QPAC Lyric Theatre from 2 to 11 September 2016.

Minister for Education and Minister for Tourism and Major Events Kate Jones said The Student Movement meant an entire performance of the nine performance season would be solely dedicated to students.

"By dedicating one whole performance exclusively to students and offering a lower price, QPAC is helping to inspire a new generation of arts lovers," Ms Jones said.

"Welcoming the world-renowned Ballet Preljocaj will further Queensland's reputation as a premier destination for arts and cultural events.

"The Student Movement initiative means students will have an incredible opportunity to experience a truly world-class ballet performance right here in Brisbane.

"I thank QPAC for making this wonderful production accessible for students from around Queensland and hope everyone enjoys the show", concluded Minister Jones.

Ballet Preljocaj's Snow White created by the company's Artistic Director Angelin Preljocaj, is a collaborative masterpiece showcasing his interpretation of the original Grimm brothers' tale; with costumes by world famous designer Jean Paul Gaultier, music from composer Gustav Mahler and sets by theatre and film set designer Thierry Leproust.

Ballet Preljocaj is one of the leading contemporary ballet companies in the world. Under the leadership of their award winning Artistic Director, Angelin Preljocaj, the company of 24 dancers will travel to Brisbane for the exclusive season.

QPAC Chief Executive John Kotzas said The Student Movement will offer students from across Australia the chance to see a world class company in action.

"We are passionate about providing students, many of whom will become our performing arts stars and industry leaders, an opportunity to experience some of the most amazing artists working in the world today and the International Series is a chance for us to do this.

"Price is often a distinct barrier for students in attending performance, particularly major seasons like this one. With The Student Movement we're removing that barrier and hoping students who are passionate about the performing arts will travel to Brisbane and enjoy and engage in this spectacular work up close", said Mr Kotzas.

The Student Movement is part of a broader program of events and activity that QPAC builds around its International Series presentations. The full program will be announced in August 2016.

The Student Movement tickets go on sale to Australian students* Tuesday 31 May 2016.
