Internationally acclaimed guitarist, Karin Schaupp, and renowned actor and director Tama Matheson are set to sizzle as they unite to bring Lord Byron's greatest literary work Don Juan to life on stage in a way the poem has never been experienced before.

In a world premiere, the theatrical event explores the seductive and scandalous life of Lord Byron's fictional libertine while also examining and intertwining the equally outrageous real life of the celebrated British poet, also famed for his desire for women.

As these two worlds merge in this creative interpretation of the literary classic, Byron and Juan become reflections of each other and it grows increasingly difficult to tell where fact ends and fiction begins.

Befitting this tale of fiery romance, passion and intrigue, Don Juan is set to the evocative Spanish music of Turina, Pujol and Tarrega, played by the scorching Karin Schaupp, an internationally acclaimed recitalist and concerto soloist. In a wonderful twist, Schaupp will also act in the performance challenging Byron's wild ways and creating an often hilarious interplay between the music and the words.

Much loved by Brisbane audiences, Tama Matheson will fire up the roles of Byron and his fictional hero, Don Juan. The Director of Classic Productions Theatre Company in Brisbane, as well as Artistic Director of the Brisbane Shakespeare Festival, Matheson is renowned here and abroad for his direction and acting.

Just like Byron's poem itself, the musical interpretation of Don Juan is full of wit, charm, elegance, adventure and horror, revealing a deep portrait of one of the greatest creative minds of the Romantic era.

Adding to the intensity of the performance, audiences will get up close and personal with this hilarious and highly dramatic musical adventure as it is performed in the intimacy of the QPAC Concert Hall in reverse mode* for one performance only.
