Camerata's 2019 Season Is Set To Inspire

Following an action packed 2018 Camerata - Queensland's Chamber Orchestra - promises to deliver another exceptional year for Queensland audiences in 2019.

Known for its adventurous programming, Camerata will present four subscription series concerts in Brisbane and Toowoomba, while cementing their position as Company-In-Residence at Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

In February, the series commences with Camerata sharing the stage in concert with one of Australia's most treasured singers, soprano Sara Macliver. With a program spanning a dreamy entrée from Grainger, to Vivaldi's tempestuous In furore, the season opening will set the tone for Camerata's 2019 subscription series.

Set in the intimate surrounds of QPAC's Cremorne Theatre, and Toowoomba's Empire Church Theatre, Unearthed Gems, will present an opportunity for audience members to witness the artistry of eight of Camerata's Artistic Associates up close and personal. Featuring a splendid selection of known and little known music, this series is sure to delight.

Brisbane sisters, Monica and Sarah Curro will make a welcome return home from Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to South-East Queensland when they join Camerata for Sisters. Celebrating old and new, the performance includes Concerto for Two Violins in a celebratory nod to distinguished Toowoomba-born composer, Richard Mills in his 70th birthday year. Recognised as one of the most passionate, sensual and gripping pieces in Camerata's repertoire, Transfigured Night, promises to be a highlight of the evening.

Camerata's 2019 subscription series will conclude with a highly anticipated new theatre-concert work, When The World Was Wide. With their previously presented theatre works, Camerata continues to receive praise from audiences and critics for these ambitious and adventurous artistic collaborations. Not quite a concert, not quite a play, this piece is a melding of narrative, acting and concert music. Exploring the friendship of two of Australia's most iconic poets and writers, Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson, When The World Was Wide draws on atmospheric and evocative music performed live by Camerata. In collaboration with award winning writer and actor, Tama Matheson, and joined by artists from the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts, this season closer is sure to be a hit.

As well as their subscription series, Camerata offer audience members an opportunity to engage deeper through its Extend Your Experience program. Camerata is excited to perform for Queensland Ballet in two major productions, Dangerous Liaisons in March and The Little Green Road To Fairyland (co-presented with Queensland Music Festival) in July followed by a state tour.

Hailed by The Australian as "the future of Australian Chamber Music", Camerata welcomes Orava Quartet as Artist-in-Residence for 2019. They'll delight audiences in April with a program from classic Haydn to hear-wrenching Mendellssohn, Czech dance to Polish folk tunes.

The Fish Lane Project continues in 2019, with Camerata partnering with three neighbourhood business to enhance the audience experience. From Hello Please, Ol'School and Wandering Cooks, patrons are invited to taste a unique food and beverage offering, each inspired from Camerata's music program on the main stage - taste it now, hear it later!

With a state-wide tour supported by Tim Fairfax Family Foundation and a number of other exciting projects in the works, 2019 will surely be a season to remember.

Performing without a conductor, Camerata's string players have established a reputation for passionate, exciting performances which engage audiences of all ages, whatever their experience.

Camerata - Queensland's Chamber Orchestra, has established itself as a chamber orchestra of national significance with an outstanding track record of artistic achievement. A Company-in-Residence at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), Camerata's vision is to empower artists, inspire audiences, and enrich communities through music.

Performing without a conductor, the 18-member core ensemble and their guest artists proudly take full ownership of the music-making in the spirit of chamber music to form a thriving, refreshing and acclaimed voice. Under Artistic Director Brendan Joyce, the group undertakes an annual regional Queensland tour and a subscription concert season in both Brisbane and Toowoomba.

Camerata has a reputation for innovation and interesting and adventurous programming. Camerata regularly works with performers outside the 'classical' sector. In 2016 Camerata was nominated for a Helpmann Award for Best Chamber and/or Instrumental Ensemble Concert for its concert Home featuring an all-Australian music program.
