The performance will feature world-leading exponent in historical cello playing cellist Daniel Yeadon, performing Haydn's wonderful C Major cello concerto, directed by Dr Erin Helyard. He joins AHE again as soloist following his brilliant performance of CPE Bach's A minor concerto last year.
Formed in 2011 in Sydney by violinist Skye McIntosh (a much sought after specialist of baroque and classical period violin) the ensemble specializes in late baroque and early classical repertoire, which it performs with passion on unique historic instruments. The ensemble, which has former violin playing The Honourable Dame Marie Bashir AD CVO as their Patron, has garnered a loyal following, in the idyllic setting of the Utzon Hall, Sydney Opera House and in Canberra, at University House, ANU.
On Friday 15 July the ABC Classics label will release the ensemble's debut CD, The Haydn Album, which features three of Haydn's most popular works: the Cello Concerto in C major, performed by Daniel Yeadon; the Harpsichord Concerto in D major, with Erin Helyard; and the Symphony No.6 'Le matin'. The album was recorded by the ARIA-winning producer-engineer Virginia Read, and is set to be one of the most significant recordings of Haydn's music in recent years.
"We are so thrilled to have recorded our first album, which is 100 per cent Haydn." says McIntosh "Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) is our icon. "For audiences, every one of his pieces is like a delicious cherry and hearing them performed on historical instruments presents an often revelationary take on them. He is one of the most prolific and prominent composers of the Classical period. We want to introduce his music, and that of other lesser known contemporaries of his, to our audiences in a fresh way."
Dr Erin Helyard, one of Australia's finest keyboard players, will direct Mozart & Haydn. He is an expert in historically-informed performance, respected musical director and co-director of Pinchgut Opera. He is also featured as soloist in Mozart's beautiful piano concerto no.14.

How good to have the shutters opened on a window into the 18th century orchestral world of Joseph Haydn in this exceptional concert by The Australian Haydn Ensemble ... The musicians of the AHE perform their repertoire with passion and sophistication to recreate both the delicacy and the rumbustious exuberance of the composer.Canberra Times Dec 2015
World-leading exponent in historical cello playing - Daniel Yeadon, joins AHE again as soloist following his brilliant performance of CPE Bach's A minor concerto last year. Haydn's cello concerto in C Major, despite being one of his most performed works for the cello, is rarely heard on period instruments. This will be a treat for audiences to hear this beloved work in its original way.
Helyard's "energetic and inspiring leadership" combined with the "precise and elegant playing" of the AHE in Haydn's symphony 'La Poule' (The Hen) will make for exciting listening.
