DEMOCRACIA Comes to Teatro Faap 3/18 - 3/20! Image

DEMOCRACIA is playing at Teatro Faap in Brazil from March 18 to 20, 2019.

Director Felipe Hirsch investigates the inherent social, political and personal consequences for Chilean society after the dictatorship of the current contradictions and complexities of democracy in the world. Based on Facsimile (2014) by Chilean writer Alejandro Zambra, dramaturgy uses the logic and structure of a competence test for university entrance, criticizing the dominant ideology of meritocracy. The play becomes a tragic game, a reflection of the trajectory of this generation, that has to sustain the dreams, the fears and the frustrations of Chile. Merging the autobiographical traits of the actors, the assembly highlights aspects that marked the transition to democracy and its consolidation in the last 30 years: the sequels of dictatorship, education, economics, inequality, ethics and even the family. Democracy is a co-production of the International Theater Festival of São Paulo (MITsp), and the Chilean Theater and Thousand Foundation Theater University Finis Terrae.
