It is Victorian-era & Reconstructionist-era Boston. Ticknor and Fields Publishing House is the most successful printing press and bookseller in the nation. The printing office was co-owned and operated by Annie's late husband James T. Fields. Finding herself in a life of solitude, Annie embraces the nostalgia of youth in her silver years, recollecting memories of her confidants and friends.
Mrs. Annie Adams Fields had incredible influence on literary decisions at Ticknor & Fields, which was the forerunner to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Counting amongst her friends: Nathaniel Hawthorne, Charles Dickens, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and Oliver Wendell Holmes, Annie witnessed revelry at the height of Transcedentalism, along with a nation's despair, during the onslaught of Civil War.
Now Mrs. Fields offers her guests intimate secrets and extraordinary observations, including her years with Sarah Orne Jewett in a Boston Marriage. Join Mrs. Fields! She is a consummate hostess. There will be laughter, disbelief, awe, and even blushing cheeks, as you hear the tantalizing tales of this preeminent literary scout and accomplished writer! Learn how Ticknor & Fields (now called Houghton-Mifflin Harcourt Company), changed society and discover the woman who made it possible.
This event takes place at 6:00 pm ET at the Merrick Public Library, 2 Lincoln St, Brookfield, MA. Running Time: 60 Minutes. Followed by audience talkback. Rated PG. Family Friendly.
