Danielle Maddon, violin

Dmitri Shostakovich
Symphony no. 7, “Leningrad” (1941)
Our season closes with a poignant look at the People in Between histories, places, memories, and cultures.
Thomas de Hartmann’s violin concerto, featuring our own Danielle Maddon, conveys the indescribable times in WWII Paris, even as its Romantic beauty is juxtaposed with Adeliia Faizullina’s Bolghar, a musical imagining of the ancient capital of Tatar, solo quray performed by Adeliia. The season ends with the gritty resilience of Shostakovich’s Leningrad symphony.
