Theatre Workshop of Nantucket opened their 63rd season on May 24th with Neil Simons California Suite. Written in 1976, California Suite is generally considered some of Neil Simons best writing; smart, intimate and often hilarious, it is composed of four playlets that show us the inner workings of five couples as they pass through the same suite in a swanky Los Angeles hotel in the 1970s. Theatre Workshop of Nantuckets Artistic Director, Justin Cerne has a deep appreciation for Neil Simon plays, and since Simon passed away last year, Cerne chose one of his favorite works to honor the late playwright. Cerne also directs this production which features actors Timothy Booth, whose credits include Mamma Mia! on Broadway as well as on tour and the tours of Disney On Classic and She Loves Me, Sarah Fraunfelder, Susan Lucier, whose NY credits include Botanic Garden (NY Theatre Festival, Best Actress Nomination), Blue Christmas, Balm in Gilliad and local favorite, comedian Kevin Flynn in his return to the TWN stage for the first time since 1998 when he appeared in the Actors Theatre production of Barefoot in the Park, another Neil Simon classic. Flynn has worked professionally as an actor, writer, producer, television and radio host and has been a standup comedian for over 30 years. Kevin's TV and film roles include, The Heartbreak Kid, Me, Myself and Irene and HBOs Sex and the City. He is currently touring with his latest one man show Fear of Heights. Kevin is also the Co-founder and Executive Director of the Nantucket Comedy Festival in support of Standup & Learn.Im so glad to have the opportunity to work with Kevin, and the rest of this wonderful cast. Im grateful for the hard work the entire cast and crew is putting in to bring this play to life this spring, says Cerne. In addition to this talented cast, local actor Casey Boukus appears in one playlet in a somewhat understated but critical and very, very funny role, and Annie Breeding brings her flawless eye to the glamorous costuming of this play, which along with the beautiful sets and lighting provided by Peter Waldron and Stephen Petrell, helps transport us back to LA in all its 70s glory. This show runs from May 24th through June 15th. Tickets are available at theatrenantucket.org.
