Joe Rhys, born in the hills of South Carolina, shares his experiences with viewers in a new Immersive Living History Experience by History At Play, LLC.
Now an old man, Rhys has had a long and fruitful life upon which to reflect. The year being 1925, he is currently in his 80s, yet his memory is vivid. He recalls his Welsh grandpa, his mulatto mother, and his fighting... before, during, and after the American Civil War.Rhys witnessed a great deal of historical events, including: The Battle of Wilson's Creek (1861), the Battle of the Crater (1864), and the Great Chicago Fire (1871). His son served in World War I. Rhys speaks in the vernacular of the era and dances the old time clogging, when encouraged to do so. His language- blunt but not caustic- provides an intimate look into life as a tri-racial man in America from the Antebellum Era into the Roaring Twenties.
Running time: 45 minutes, followed by Q&A. Appropriate for all ages. Joe Rhys is a fictional historical character based on factual events and primary sources.
