The Harvard-Radcliffe Dramatic Club (HRDC) presents the 2009 Visiting Director's Project and first Loeb Mainstage production of fall 2009, THE FLIES by Jean-Paul Sartre.

After a lifetime of exile, Orestes returns to his childhood home of Argos to find it plagued by heat, terror, and decay. His sister is a slave, his mother barely a shadow, and his father's murderer still sits on the throne. What is everyone in Argos so afraid of? Why do they all wear black? Where do all these flies come from? Join visiting professional director Geordie Broadwater '04 as he reimagines Jean-Paul Sartre's reimagining of a classic Greek story. One part western, one part horror, one part existential crisis, THE FLIES asks: would you rather have purpose or freedom?

THE FLIES is written by Jean-Paul Sartre and directed by '04 Harvard alum Geordie Broadwater. This production is produced by Liz Krane '11 and Ali Leskowitz '11.

Performances are on the Loeb Mainstage (Loeb Drama Center, 64 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA) on October 16, October 17, October 18, October 22, October 23, and October 24. All performances begin at 8pm.

The Visiting Director's Project is an HRDC/Office for the Arts at Harvard (OFA)-sponsored project that occurs every fall on the Loeb Mainstage during which a professional director is brought in to direct a show of his or her choice with a staff and cast of Harvard students.

The Harvard-Radcliffe Dramatic Club is the umbrella organization for campus theater at Harvard. All Harvard undergraduates who have participated in campus theater within the past year are considered members of the HRDC. The eight-member HRDC Board oversees student productions in the Loeb Drama Center; these productions include two residencies per semester on the Loeb Mainstage (including the annual Visiting Director's Project in the Fall) as well as five to seven shows per semester in the Loeb Experimental Theater.

The HRDC also works to connect students to the working professionals at the nationally regarded American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.), with whom the HRDC shares the Loeb Drama Center. The American Repertory Theater is a professional not-for-profit theatre in Cambridge, MA. Founded in 1980 by Robert Brustein, the A.R.T. is known for its commitment to new American plays and music-theater explorations; to neglected works of the past; and to established classical texts reinterpreted in refreshing new ways. Over the past thirty years it has garnered many of the nation's most distinguished awards, including a Pulitzer Prize (1982), a Tony Award (1986), and a Jujamcyn Award (1985). The A.R.T. is housed in the Loeb Drama Center at Harvard University. The Artistic Director is Diane Paulus.
