Opening Reagle Players' 42nd season on June 18th is the classic Into the Woods starring Broadway powerhouse Rachel York. York recently won the 2009 Irne Award for Best Musical Actress for her critically praised turn as the title character in Reagle's Hello, Dolly! That production was part of last summer's "Salute to Jerry Herman" season. York returns as The Witch this summer in James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's original fairy tale Into the Woods. The characters (some new and some familiar) set out into the woods on a quest. Act One sees all pursuing their "happily-ever-after" destinies. The musical's second half explores what happens after "happily ever after" as the characters confront giants, mayhem and disenchantment. Most discover that perhaps "happily-ever-after" may truly be found in simply living the tale and turning the pages. Nominated for Best Musical and running close to three years on Broadway, the humorous and touching Lapine-Sondheim tale leaves audiences spellbound with its delightful characters and bewitching score.

July 16th welcomes Meredith Willson's Best Musical winner The Music Man as a midsummer treat. This lovely "musical valentine to America" stars two prior Irne Award winners. Familiar Boston newscaster Scott Wahle appears as the duplicitous instrument salesman Harold Hill and Broadway's Sarah Pfisterer is cast as the lovely but wary town librarian, Marian Paroo. The tale follows the trail of Hill - an itinerant salesman and bamboozler extraordinaire - as he tries to pitch the idea of a marching band and nonexistent instruments to the daffy denizens of idyllic River City. The "ultimate con" backfires on the "ultimate con man" as Hill finds himself snared by Marian's heart. Love conquers all and harmony settles upon the madcap Corn Belt hamlet after an adventurous, fanciful and melody filled Iowa summer.

The final summer production which opens August 13th is Broadway's Best Musical Tony winner, Hairspray. Millions who have seen the show know that "you can't stop the beat" especially with a score which delights the ear. The time is 1960's Baltimore confronting rock, dance, teens and integration by way of the local Corny Collins Show, a dance-crazed local TV show. It is, of course, based on Dick Clark and "American Bandstand" which hypnotized the country's 50's era teens. Irresistibly optimistic, perky and plus-sized Tracy Turnblad leads her equally plus sized Mom, Edna, and the entire town of Baltimore into a new era of integration via the TV show. The plot bounces to the beat of an original, cleverly derivative 60's rock score. Marissa Perry recreates her Broadway Tracy for Reagle audiences. Following the siren sounds of the era and of her plus-sized heart, Tracy leads the parade to acceptance and social progress. A Best Musical Tony winner, Hairspray is a fun-filled song and high energy dance celebration for the entire family.
