Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival's 43rd season features the long-awaited return appearance of Borromeo String Quartet, led in concert by the Festival's former Artistic Director Nicholas Kitchen, at Dennis Union Church, 713 Main Street, Dennis, on Wednesday, August 17, 5 pm.

"When the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival welcomes the beloved Borromeo, we welcome the continuing musical excellence and profound creativity they have brought to the Cape for the past 23 years," shares Executive Director Emeritus Elaine Lipton. "For seven of those years, first violinist Nicholas Kitchen was the Festival's Artistic Director, and in the following 16 years, they have returned to perform for us almost every season. We have grown side by side through challenges, achievements and triumphs over that span of time."

The Dennis program begins with an exciting Festival debut - Jamaican composer Eleanor Alberga's 2nd String Quartet. The piece is followed by a performance of Beethoven's monumental String Quartet, Opus 131, a work the composer first described as "patched together from pieces filched here and there," now regarded as "an unprecedentedly original and ambitious work: arguably the zenith of Beethoven's late quartets, which in themselves hold a privileged position at the core of the repertoire - for many, its holy grail." (Thomas May in Strings Magazine).

This season, in the interest of public health and safety, and by popular demand, concerts are programmed to be 60 to 80 minutes in length without intermission, beginning at 5 pm, with the exception of the free public concert on August 16 at 7 pm (see schedule).

Tickets for the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival concerts are $40 general admission on August 2, 3, 9, 12 and 17; $55 general admission on August 5 and 19. All concerts offer $15 admission for college students (with ID); and free admission for attendees 18 and under. The August 16 concert at the National Seashore is free admission for all. Tickets for the 2022 season can be purchased by phone at 508-247-9400 and online at capecodchambermusic.org. Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival health and safety protocols for this season will be announced prior to the first concert, following state and local mandates.
