Whistler in the Dark Theatre continues their season-long celebration and exploration of acclaimed British playwright Caryl Churchill's work with a presentation of her 2000 dystopian fairy tale, FAR AWAY. Permeated with paranoia and fear, FAR AWAY shows us a fun-house mirror reflection of our world, a dystopian society where unspeakable horrors take place just offstage and the moral compass is shattered. By turns lyrical and prosaic, terrifying and shot through with a dark glinting humor, this fable of a society (and a planet) turning on itself is the work master playwright and political thinker at her best.

FAR AWAY, which will be Whistler in the Dark's 29th production and eighth foray into Ms. Churchill's work, will be the final production produced by the 9 year-old company, which will be disbanding in April. In a letter last month announcing the move, Artistic Director, Meg Taintor noted that these final months of the company mark a unique opportunity for transition for the company and its community: "While we look towards the future and see the closing of the company, we still have three months of work ... and so we are in this unique moment of getting to be both generative and nostalgic at the same time."

FAR AWAY is staged in Whistler's signature stripped-down aesthetic at the Charlestown Working Theater where the company is in residence. The three actors - Becca A. Lewis, Bob Mussett, and Lorna Nogueira - not only perform the roles in the play but also provide the sound design through live music performed throughout the evening. Tickets are on sale now at whistlerinthedark.com and are priced according to Whistler's Pay-What-You-Want ticketing model, which has advance sales as low as $15.

The show will play today, April 3-19, 2014: Thursdays at 7:30pm; Friday and Saturdays at 8pm; and Sundays at 3pm. Press Opening: Saturday April 5. All performances run at the Charlestown Working Theater, 442 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, MA 02129. For more information, visit www.charlestownworkingtheater.org.

About Whistler in the Dark: Whistler in the Dark Theatre is an ensemble theatre company based in Boston, Massachusetts that produces highly theatrical and physically inventive plays that question and challenge our assumptions about the world in which we live and the rules we live by.

Whistler strives to develop an ensemble of theatrical artists and audiences dedicated to exploring plays that celebrate the imagination through linguistic acrobatics and a stripping away of extraneous trappings. We hope to provoke the senses by focusing on the primacy of the actor in space.
