Wax Wings Productions announces EYES SHUT. DOOR OPEN, a modern day Cain and Abel tale by Cassie M. Seinuk. Set in New York City, the play focuses on the curiosities of human relationships and explores the various dynamics within the vibrant and ever-evolving SoHo art scene. EYES SHUT. DOOR OPEN fits perfectly within the repertoire of Wax Wings Productions as it not only excites and provokes, but calls on the audience to evaluate Human Nature from a deeper, more meaningful perspective. The play will be on stage at The Inner Sanctum Gallery, an artist and creative social center in Roxbury, and will run for two weeks only: August 6-8 and August 13-15, 2015.
EYES SHUT. DOOR OPEN revolves around Turner Street and his new-found success as an artist. Turner's bold paintings of eyes captivate many including Johanna, an elusive woman who reveals to be more than just another fan of his work. Things begin to unravel after Turner's one-eyed, pill-popping younger brother Palmer enters the picture. Palmer's abrupt appearance forces Turner to confront the dark truths behind his success, the haunting family secrets shut behind doors, and how facing them could mean losing it all.
EYES SHUT. DOOR OPEN is brought to life with three key actors. Victor Shopov makes his Wax Wings debut as Turner. He has numerous credits including The Normal Heart, which won the Boston My Theatre Award for Best Actor and IRNE Award for best play, and BENT for which he recently won an Elliot Norton Award for Best Actor. Melissa Dejesus (Johanna), collaborates with Cassie M. Seinuk again after having debuted in Playing Checkers, which was a finalist for the Kennedy Center's National Ten Minute Play Award. Michael Underhill completes the cast as Palmer. Michael serves as an Artistic Associate to Imaginary Beasts and has worked with SpeakEasy Stage Company, Heart and Dagger, and Theatre on Fire.
A scholar as well as a creative, playwright Cassie M. Seinuk is influenced by the works of Samuel Beckett, Paul Auster, and Martin McDonagh and thrives in crafting honest, memorable moments in imaginative settings where the rules of our everyday world may not always apply. EYES SHUT. DOOR OPEN is a shining example of her academic, yet experiential nature. The play received development with Interim Writers, Argos Productions, and Wax Wings Productions in addition to being a part of her master's thesis at Lesley University and a 2014 Inkwell Finalist. Cassie is the winner of the Gary Garrison National Ten Minute Play award at the Kennedy Center in 2015 for her play Occupy Hallmark, the second place winner of the Latinidad Playwriting Award at the Kennedy center in 2014 for her play From The Deep, and the recipient of the Boston Jewish cultural endowment for From The Deep.
