The Wang Center for the Performing Arts, a non-profit organization dedicated to presenting popular art and entertainment as well as arts education programming, and Citigroup, one of the leading global financial services companies, announced the new name for Boston's pre-eminent performing arts center. Formerly The Wang Center for the Performing Arts, Inc., it is now named the Citi Performing Arts Center. Citigroup and The Wang entered into a 15-year partnership to support arts, education and community initiatives in Boston.
Citi Performing Arts Center will operate the Wang Theatre and Shubert Theatre. The new name is being formally "unveiled" on Friday, December 1, and it will be celebrated that evening at the organization's annual fundraiser, The Velvet Party, on The Wang Theatre Stage. Citi Performing Arts Center will officially kick off the holiday theater season with the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, opening on December 7 and featuring the Rockettes.
The Center's Education Department, through its Suskind Young At Arts Endowment Fund, helps to build community and neighborhood partnerships and programs including Dance Across the City, Celebrate Shakespeare Day, and City Spotlights, debuting in spring 2007.
