Vagabond Theatre Group Stages AUGUST AND AUTUMN, Now thru 12/7

Vagabond Theatre Group's newest new play, August and Autumn by local playwright Brian Tuttle, directed by James Peter Sotis, will run at Boston Playwright's Theatre from tonight, November 30 through December 7.

This love story begins when August, the man with the second best memory in the world, meets Autumn, a woman with a disease preventing her from forming new memories. A foray into our minds, the play focuses on the way we perceive and remember the world around us and those who mean the most.

"At the heart of this play is a romantic comedy, but it takes a more intellectual approach," says director James Peter Sotis. "It investigates the way that our brains store and recall information, exploring tactics for memorization and reasons that we 'forget' things."

August and Autumn tickets are $15 for General Admission and $10 for students, available through OvationTix (https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pr/929671). The play runs about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

About Playwright Brian Tuttle: Brian Tuttle was a founding member of 11:11 Theatre Company, a small Boston troupe dedicated to producing original plays in intimate spaces. He received his B.A. in Theatre Arts with a specialization in playwriting and directing from the University of Iowa in 2002. While at Iowa he was a recipient of the Dina Reese Evans scholarship for outstanding contributions to the theater department. During his time at Iowa, Tuttle was able to develop his work under the guidance of established theatre luminaries Naomi Izuka and David Gothard. In 2003 Tuttle moved to Boston and worked to establish 11:11 in the fringe theater scene. As one of two resident playwrights of the company, Tuttle churned out a staggering amount of original work, some twenty full-length plays in a seven year span, all of which were mounted for production in that time. While his plays span a large variety of genres and styles, all of them have the common themes of connection, longing and hope. The 2009-2010 Season was a banner year for Tuttle. His comedic twist on the nativity story, The Three (Un)Wise Men, coming-of-age story Foreverendia and adaptation of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations all had world premieres and received rave reviews from Boston area critics. In 2011, Brian received an IRNE nomination for Best New Play for his comedy Her Red Umbrella.

About Director James Peter Sotis: James Peter Sotis is the Founder and Artistic Director of Vagabond Theatre Group. He is a director, designer, and actor originally hailing from Ipswich, Massachusetts. James graduated Boston University in 2008 with a B.S. in Film & Television and has directed VTG shows: A Skull in Connemara, IRNE-nominated Burning the Barn, The Unfortunate Cutthroats, True Believers, IRNE-nominated Burning up the Dictionary and Supergravity and the Eleventh Dimension. James was previously Artistic Director of the Ipswich Summer Theatre Company, as well as an active member of Boston University Stage Troupe and The Company. Previous credits include The Importance of Being Earnest (Director), Death of a Salesman (Director), Sure Thing (Bill), The Sound of Music (Max), The Music Man (Props), Buried Child (Props), The Strength of Our Spirit (Set Design), On Borrowed Time (Dr. Evans), and The Matinee (Sean). James likes to tell stories, and is eternally grateful to anyone who will listen.
