Unnecessary Farce opens August 22nd at the Cape Playhouse, closing the 2011 season at America's Oldest Professional Summer Theatre.
Summer may be ending, but at the Cape Playhouse, there's still time for an Unnecessary Farce. Opening on August 22nd, Broadway stars and hilarious comedy to Cape Cod, in a show complete with all of the farce fixings, including mistaken identities, slamming doors, and plenty of over the top mix-ups.
The Playhouse has had a stellar season, receiving rave reviews from press and audience members alike. The final show of 2011 brings back a cadre of Cape Playhouse favorites: Brad Bellamy, Jennifer Cody, Suzanna Hay, Dee Hoty, Michael McGrath, John Scherer, and Jeremy Webb.
In Unnecessary Farce a sleazy, embezzling mayor (Brad Bellamy) tries to have a meeting with his female accountant (Dee Hoty) in a cheap motel room, during which two undercover cops (Jennifer Cody and John Scherer) wait in the next room to catch the meeting on videotape. This contemporary American farce in the tradition of Lend Me a Tenor (but contemporary) and Noises Off, but American, will have audiences laughing out loud at the riotous mayhem and ridiculous mix-ups.
Unnecessary Farce runs from August 22nd through September 3rd. Performances are every evening Monday through Saturday at 8 PM. Matinees are Wednesdays and the second Thursday at 2 PM, first Saturday at 4 PM. The Cape Playhouse is located at 820 Route 6A, Dennis, MA.
