On Saturday, July 9th, theatre lovers of all ages will be joining hundreds of Boston area children and teens at the fourth annual CBACT Children's Theatre Festival, hosted by South Shore School of Theatre at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA. This full day of theatre includes interactive workshops and live performances from children's theatres in the Greater Boston area - one of which is the Un-Common Theatre Company, based in Mansfield, MA.
"We're so excited and honored to be a part of this day," said Un-Common President
Chris Lowey. The Un-Common Theatre Company will present an hour of Improvisation directly after lunch at the festival. Year after year, Un-Common's teen-filled Improv Soup has brought the house down with their hilarious audience-participating sketches and games. This year is sure to be no different as families file in after lunch to watch the Improv show.
The event is the highlight of the summer for Boston area children's theatres, as future theatre stars from the greater Boston area come together to collaborate, perform, and celebrate the world of the theatre arts. Featuring live performances, interactive workshops for all ages and a lunch time sing-a-long, the 2011 Children's Theatre Festival is a great way to beat the summer heat for kids and families.
The public is welcome to this fun-filled day of theatre. Between performances, workshops are held throughout the day, and are a great way for participants and young audience members alike to experience and learn more about all aspects of theatre arts, including improvisation, basic performance, stage combat, and even Shakespeare.
2009's festival brought national attention, as Rob Hopper of
National Youth Theatre said "Not content with rallying the states together to launch the American Revolution, now Boston is leading the way toward uniting youth theatres."
The Children's Theatre festival is the annual event of CBACT - the Consortium of Boston Area Children's Theatres - a first of its kind nonprofit group dedicated to the collaboration of children's theatre groups in the Boston area.
The event is set for July 9, 2011 starting at 9am, is hosted at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA and will take place at the Cove Fine Arts Center. Admission for the day is $20, or $5 per show with workshops included in the ticket price. Lunch is also available onsite so families can spend a full day at the festival conveniently. There is plenty of free parking available. Tickets may be purchased on line at
